I want to wish Israel a very happy 60th birthday as it celebrates its independence this week! The alliance between the U.S. and Israel is a crucial one in the war against Islamist terror as reflected by President Bush's visit there this week. The common Judeo-Christian religious heritage shared by our countries is also a crucial factor in the ties between our countries. These bonds are strengthened further by Israel's vibrant, even chaotic, democratic government and political system. While I have concerns about the proposed two-state solution to the Palestinean problem, I remain confident that our ties with Israel will endure and strengthen. Israel has a innovative free market economy producing goods and services in high technology and other areas. It is a leader in developing environmentally beneficial technologies and its democratic governmental structures and free market economy allow law-abiding citizens to receive good quality education and make optimum use of their God-given talents. These attributes, undoubtedly, are appalling to Islamist zealots and their cohorts who cling to the delusional belief that they can destroy Israel and subject that part of the world to the misery of a totalitarian Islamist regime. Israel's enemies are also America's enemies.
May God continue to bless and protect Israel and strengthen America's alliance with that wonderful country.
